Sixty years of pioneering beyond borders |
BUas is turning 60 and to mark this milestone, we are opening the archives for a six-part journey through six decades of history. It began in 1966 with 60 carefully selected students at a tourism institute that held its very first class in a Breda café, and an outlook that was international from the very start. From those pioneering roots to today's global campus, the series traces how a small Dutch institute grew into a university with partners across the world. We warmly invite you to follow along: Episode 1 and Episode 2. |

A warm welcome to our partners |
In May, BUas welcomed 34 colleagues from 22 partner universities to take part in our Blended Intensive Programme during the International Staff Week. Tailored to international offices, the week paired sessions on AI, student well-being and internationalisation with job shadowing, campus exploration and plenty of conversation in between. As ever, it was the informal interactions that proved the real value of meeting in person. |

Eleven countries, one campus - the first KreativEU Student Festal |
Over 90 students from 11 universities across our KreativEU alliance gathered in Breda for the first-ever KreativEU International Student Festival. Highlights included campus tours led by student ambassadors, a guided walk and boat trip through the city, and an AI ethics game built especially for the festival by our own AI trainers, inviting students to think critically about technology through play. A Lego Serious Play workshop and outdoor games added to the fun, before everyone celebrated at the ESN Breda gala in Breda's 700-year-old Grote Kerk. Read more… |

BUas among the Netherlands' top performers in sustainable science funding |
BUas has earned national recognition in two new funding calls from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and the Climate Research Initiative, making BUas the second most successful institute overall, after TU Delft. The projects reimagine how research is done: Rooted Remotely develops methods for equitable international collaboration that minimise air travel, sharing results as an open toolkit for researchers worldwide, while ODECART builds a framework for deciding when academic flights are truly necessary. A clear indicator of our commitment to sustainable, globally minded research. Read more… |

Bronze on the European stage for our Learning Lounge |
BUas was recognised on the European stage, taking home a Bronze Award at the first-ever Besties ceremony. The honour celebrates our Learning Lounge and its inventive use of interactive quizzes, singled out as one of the best approaches of its kind. It is a lovely affirmation of the creative, student-centred teaching we strive for and a reminder that small, playful innovations can make a real difference to how students learn. Read more… |
